About Camp Acorn at The Parish School

June 2-26

Camp Acorn is a collection of summer programs hosted at The Parish School that focuses on enhancing language, social, motor and academic development in a literature-rich, multi-sensory environment for children from 2-12 years old. Learn more about Camp Acorn programs below.

Monday – Friday
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
$2,400 for the month

The Parish School’s 4-week summer language program offers classroom-based language therapy for children between the ages of 2 and 12 who have communication delays and/or learning differences, and average to above average abilities. We offer small class sizes with a maximum of 10 children in a class and eight children or less in our youngest levels. Our adult-to-child ratio is also very low.

Language intervention to address receptive language, expressive language, and/or pragmatic language is provided by speech-language pathologists and teaching staff in a classroom setting. Both language and academic goals are targeted within the natural day-to-day classroom activities. The curriculum, teaching strategies and expectations are age and individually appropriate, as well as socially and culturally appropriate. Our highly-qualified staff helps motivate children to learn, explore, communicate and experience acceptance and encouragement at all times.

Before and after camp options are available. Registration includes a $250 non-refundable deposit.

Registration for Summer Adventure Play is now closed.

Monday – Friday
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
$1,600 for the month

Adventure Play at Camp Acorn is a unique opportunity for children ages 5-12 to engage in self-directed outdoor play and construct their own playground with the support of trained playworkers. Children create anything they can imagine using materials others may cast aside as trash, like tires, wood pallets, discarded electronics and scrap lumber. In the process they learn about community, collaboration and the creative process.

During self-directed play, children:

  • Are in charge of their own time. They can figure out what is important to them and what is worth compromising in a shared space.
  • Have the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them. Play is, by nature, process oriented, not product.
  • Can work from their strengths, but are more motivated to tackle their challenges. Play is very motivating, even when certain aspects of it are difficult.
  • Have the freedom to try new things without the timeline and structure of a classroom. Incredible things are learned in a classroom, but information can become personal and applied through play.
  • Learn about community. When adults step back, children need one another, and individual strengths become important to others.

(before and after camp options are available)(includes $250 non-refundable deposit)

Monday – Friday
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
$1,200 for the month

(before and after camp options are available)(includes $250 non-refundable deposit)

The day camp program provides camp experiences for siblings of our students, ages 2-12, who do not require intervention for special learning needs and who fall within the typical developmental ranges for their age. The program is also for staff members’ children. Day camp is a perfect solution for families that have another child attending the language program.

Day camp features a variety of hands-on, motivational camp activities led by energetic, professional camp facilitators. This program also features small class sizes with a maximum of 12 students in each group, and a small teacher-to-student ratio. We work to increase self-esteem, develop problem-solving skills, inspire creativity, expand social skills and develop organizational skills.

Activities may include:

  • sports and movement
  • art
  • storytime
  • drama
  • science
  • nature activities
  • cooking
  • music
  • developmentally appropriate academic activities

Monday – Friday
Begins at 8 a.m.
$225 for the month

Drop your camper off starting at 8 a.m., and a paraeducator will supervise the children until camp begins. When carpool starts at 9 a.m., early morning drop-off children are escorted to their appropriate classrooms.

Enrollment in early morning drop-offs for the full month only; no part-time spots are available.

Monday – Thursday

Looking for an afternoon option for your camper? Our afternoon enrichment classes are led by our paraeducators and offer a variety of extracurricular activities: cooking, yoga, game mania and more! Younger preschool students have an opportunity for rest time and participate in fun, gross motor, art and music activities. Children explore open-ended materials, enjoy books and other media, collaborate with others and let their imagination and creativity run wild.

Enrollment in afternoon enrichment is for the full month only; no part-time spots are available.
